What Makes You Unique?

“What makes you so special?”

“I like to think it’s because of my perky nipples.”

No, that’s not another quote from a friend and myself, though it easily could have been. Either way it got me thinking- what makes me special? Truth is that I’m not all that unique, hell none of us really are. I am made up of my life experiences and in that I’m unique but otherwise I’m just like everyone else.

We strive for uniqueness, to stand out amongst the crowd, but how often do we really do that?

Yeah, I’m a hard worker but a lot of people are. I’m a good friend and person, again not all that unique. I’m a walking contradiction of beliefs, character traits, and actions but you hear a lot of people claim the same.

So, I’m going to share some random facts about myself and we’ll see how many of them are uniquely my own. If you also do, have, or believe the following then own up to it in the comment section and I’ll see if any of them are left unclaimed. Then maybe I can prove that I am unique after all.

  1. I have no wisdom teeth, not that they were removed. I just don’t have any.
  2. I’ve always wanted a cat but I’m allergic and the thought of cleaning a liter box makes me gag…so essentially I want one in theory only.
  3. I’m part Native American.
  4. I need lists and order in my work but am SO messy/cluttered in my room.
  5. I don’t mind doing laundry or dishes but I hate dusting or cleaning bathrooms.
  6. I love road trips and driving but am directionally challenged and have anxiety about driving places where I’m not 100% sure where I am going.
  7. Consequently I have a severe phobia of driving in the city.
  8. I can’t dance for shit but in my head I’m amazing.
  9. My mouth itches when I eat bananas, pineapple, eggplant, and fresh garlic. I know this means I’m probably allergic to it but I eat it all anyway because, yum.
  10. I’m obsessed with fire. Love it.
  11. I love tomato soup but hate tomatoes.
  12. I’m newly obsessed with all things birds, feathers, or flight.
  13. I hate driving over (or beings stuck on) bridges but I love taking pictures of/on them because I think they’re beautiful.
  14. I don’t now, nor will I ever, have a tattoo.
  15. I have broken both my legs, at different times. The first broken leg required a 4 hour “resetting” while I under anesthesia but never required cutting/pins.
  16. I’ve never had stitches.
  17. I’ve never had surgery.
  18. My first concert was New Kids on the Block
  19. I’ve been on one of Motley Crue’s tour buses.
  20. When I get nervous I make raunchy jokes.
  21. I pretty much despise football but I’m getting better at watching it.
  22. I’ve had multiple cavities filled in my lifetime but never had Novocain. I fear needles more than pain.
  23. I’ve never seen a single episode of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy or Homeland.
  24. I addicted to wasabi. On sushi, on almonds, on peas…love it.
  25. I also have a serious addiction to lemonheads.
  26. Red wine, dark chocolate, artificial sugars, and large amounts of blueberries give me migraines.
  27. I hate migraines.
  28. I just got my first massage at 33 and fell in love! Not sure what I waited so long for.

I think that might be it for now. If I can find a couple things that are solely my own maybe I can consider myself unique. If these are all debunked I’ll have to keep going until I find something entirely my own. ;) So let me know in the comments…claim the numbers of the ones can you call your own as well?

  1. We have 4, 7 but not as severe, I just feel very uncomfortable driving in a big city that I don’t know, 14, 16 and 27 in common :-)

I’ve never heard of anyone who didn’t have wisdom teeth, so maybe this is part of your uniqueness!

    1. Apparently some people are just born without them. I’m not complaining. From what I gather removing them is pretty stinking painful! I’ll take my freak teeth status over pain…especially given my #22.

  2. For me, it’s 8, 17, 23 (With the exception of Homeland. My wife watches that so I managed to catch a few episodes) & 27. If there’s one thing the internet has taught me, it’s that everything I thought there was that made me different from everyone else is shared by at least one or two (or 200) other people. So much for being special.

    1. My Granny never got her wisdom teeth either. I have one.

I love crossing stuff of my list of things to do. My workspace must be clean. My room/house . . . I’m not as strict with that one. lol

I hate cleaning bathrooms. Especially living with Boyfriend. OMG. Boys are disgusting!! lol

I may not be as bad as Elaine on Seinfeld when it comes to dancing, but yeah . . . I still don’t do it.

      Tomatoes are disgusting. Period.

      No tattoos and not interested.

I broke the outside bone in my left foot. Everyone thought I broke it playing soccer. I let them believe that.

I’ve never seen any episodes of the shows you listed.

I had a massage a few years ago and I wound up with vertigo. While my muscles felt great, it took a half hour before I could walk out the door. Luckily I hadn’t driven. lol

    2. I think that dancing misperception is more common then we know. No, I know there is nothing (other than my life experiences and thoughts) that make me unique…but one can dream that I’m wildly unique.

    1. I’m sure there are other people out there who are allergic to things and in denial….but I like to think that I’m so ridiculously creatively unique ;)

  3. No. 14… no tattoos. Not ever? Why on earth not?

No. 11. Like ketchup. Like tomato/basil sandwiches. Hate tomatoes on burgers, salads, or in other sandwiches.

No. 1 Have one wisdom tooth left. (Somewhere in my mouth… :(
No 2 Deathly allergic to cats too. Used to have a purebred Siamese (Burmese type, not show-cat type). He was an indoor cat and we gave him a bath regularly. I never had an allergic reaction to him for the 18 years he was alive. Funny, huh?
